Archive HFH update 2

Dear Archivists,

today I want to show you the HQ section of Hive Fleety Hydra.

I have to admit, that compared to the rest of the army, 3 Tyrants seem a little few. This has several reasons. The last tyrant I did never got a decent photo (will make sure to take some asap).
The other, I guess more striking, reasons is quite simple. Tyrants have always been the most powerfull (atleast imho) HQ choice. In 4th edition they were over-powered if you ask me. They were erasing whole squads with their devourers. This fact got them off the list.

Before I knew all that, I was asked to paint the first tyranid model for the 4th Edition for the store I worked in. And it was this guy.

When my modelling got more important to me, than the actual game, I tried two differnt styles or archetypes, if you will. The first was the "MG Tyrant". I guess it is obvious what the MG stands for...

The next I did was the "chest opener". Imagine this behemoth stomping over the field, gunfire falls of his chest like raindrops. And when he made the distance to the gunemplacement, where rows of humans have dug in, his chest opens, with a sucking, squishy tone, to reveal the pink flower of wormy death...

With the last Edition, we got something really really cool!
Tervigons!
Massive monsters that could spawn more monsters...
The first Tervigon I did, was the biggest piece of work. Since no kits had been released until then, I had only a carnifex to toy around with. And as you see, the chest opener had always a theme for me. My understanding of Tyranids is, that they don't have any real need for inner organs. So the chest cpativity can be put to some better use. In this chase, you can see that there has been a long way of gaining experience, when you compare the chest-opener-tyrant and the Tervigon. I would say, several years.

But since the codex could let you field a whole bunch of these broodmothers (I know, GW has them described as Broodfathers, atleast in the german translation, but seriously... spawning? Is there something more feminie?) I had to build more of them. I did an easy cross-over betweeen the Trygon and the Fex and here we go.

So, I hope you liked the little run down. If you have questions or the like, please leave a comment  :D

Archive HFH update 1

Dear Archivists,
the first update is done. The Hive Fleet Hydra Section has now it's background.

Some words to explain what you can see and read there would be appropriate.

A good while back i had the honor of being part of one the famous "5 Generals"-Articles in the White Dwarf (which were released only in germany).

And since a friend of mine was part in this aswell we decided to write the Articles not in a describing way ("I took this minature... combined it with that...bla bla...") but take the chance and but our little piece of story in this big Fluff-Universe.

The Prolog was born. After the release, I "translated" (at least I tried to) the text into english and showed them to the guys over at Warpshadow. There was a bunch of crazy enthusiasts back then and one of them, know as "Hive Fleet Providence" sat down and did some drawings to illustrate my writing.

Some time passed on, but the idea of creating fluff stuck to my head. At that time "Entmologist", a great writer imho, was showing us, that tyranids could be good for story telling. And not only that kind of the big bad faceless enemy, but also as the protagonist. Long story short, he agreed to write my unsorted ideas of fluff into a gripping story, while I convinced a friend of mine with a good camera to take some shots to illustrate that story.

The Branches of the Hydra were created in a couple of months.
It is one of these "good old times" you will remember, when you are old and grey. And sometimes, I really really miss these times.

Anyhow, when reading this, please keep in mind, that we were young and a little crazy back then ;)

Welcome to the Archive

Welcome, fellow Archivists!

Before I tell you what this is all about,
I would like to take the chance to introduce myself.

The Interwebs know me as "Hydra", I am yet on the good side of thirty and by the end of this year, I hope to finish my teacher on probation-position and find a job as a "real" teacher. I have studied Art and Theology in Dortmund/Germany (which might explain sometimes my wierd choice of words in english), the place I live right now.

I have started "the Hobby" somewhat around 15 years ago, with the good old 2nd Edition Blood Angels.

I have collected various armies over the years, but i found my real passion in the 3rd Edition Tyranid Codex. I am all in for monsters, aliens, monster-aliens and all the wierd creatures the galaxy can throw at me.
I seriously started collecting Tyranids with the release of the 4th Edition Codex and since then there is no stopping me in collecting and converting models.

This sommer was the first time I became disloyal to the big Company (GW), when the Sedition Wars Kickstarter set my heart on fire.

So, what is this all about?

Over the last couple of years, I have been part of the former Hive Fleet Moloch Site. With that going down, I had no "official" place where I could show the world my models (aside from various forums, but no collective place).
After several attempt to resurrect the old website, I have decided to approach this from another angle. After more failed attempts to find someone to make/design me a Homepage (I am  by no means a Tech-Wizard), I thought I should give blogging a try. And you, reading this, are a witness for that try.

I will basically do two things here:

1. I will revise, sort and explain the armies and their units I have made over the years. That is the Archive part of this blog. I don't present you a full gallery of stuff, but you can tag along seeing me fill it.

2. I will show you what I am working on. That means lots and lots of WIP shots, ideas and more madness.

Disclaimer:
As you might have seen  by now, I am no native speaker, but i wll do my very best to keep my stuff readable. But sometimes I don't find the right words or my hands go faster than my brain. Please forgive that!

I don't have a decent camera. I had one, that worked for me for year after year, but it broke. So I am left with my cellphone camera right now. I hope, i will find some money to replace the old camera soon. Until then, all i can serve with are not so shiny pictures. Please forgive thatr aswell.

I hope, you will enjoy this Blog.
If you have any recommendations, questions or ideas, please feel free to throw them at me!

Yours,
Hydra
